New Contraindications for Massage

As it stands Level 4 and above massage therapists have been permitted to return to work as long as government guidelines are being followed and in the treatment of individuals in pain.  Please be your own judge as to whether this treatment is necessary for you and the benefits outweigh the risks involved.

In addition to normal contraindications to massage there are some new ones that have been brought in with the current pandemic in mind.

People that cannot currently receive massage treatment are:

• Those shielding vulnerable family members, front-line NHS staff, carers and those who have been in contact with anyone suffering from Covid-19

• Anyone currently receiving treatment for cancer, suffering lung conditions or is post-operative

 • Experiencing post Covid-19 circulatory complications (deep vein thrombosis, micro-embolisms, stroke symptoms or pulmonary embolism)

 • Aged 70 years or above

• Pregnancy

• Heart & respiratory conditions

 • Supressed immune systems

• Diabetes

 Pilates

*** Please note these are my procedures for the Garden Room and each venue will have their own procedures which will need to be followed***

  •   For all classes except equipment 1:1’s and 1:2’s, you will be required to bring your own equipment.

  • Class sizes regardless of venue will be smaller as guidelines are such that for each person in a class to be adequately socially distanced, they require 6m2 of space.

  • I will wear a mask to teach and maintain social distance.  WHO guidelines dictate that masks are not required for people exercising.

  • There will be no tactile cueing for the time being.  Sometimes it is necessary, and I will endeavour to provide that cue from the side or to the rear and not face to face.  I will then use hand sanitiser.

***Everyone***

If you are unsure about how you are feeling prior to a face to face massage appointment or Pilates session, please do not come until you feel well again.  If they are Covid type symptoms, please do not come until you have been tested and follow government guidelines before returning to class.  This does not just apply to you but also members of your household.  I will do likewise which may result in more appointments than normal being rescheduled.

These guidelines have been drawn up in accordance with guidelines issue from my governing body for massage and Pilates.  SMTO (Scottish Massage Therapists Association) and the BCPA (Body Control Pilates Association)
