In the studio there is two of the Balanced Body Allegro 2 Reformers, the Tower, Chair and Ladder Barrel. The larger pieces of Pilates equipment work together alongside the mat work to create a vast system of exercises that can be modified to vary the intensity of an exercise.
All the pieces of equipment (apart from the Ladder Barrel) use springs for resistance. Springs differ from weights in that the load that springs offer is variable throughout an exercise depending on how stretched out the spring is. The springs create resistance, similar to weights in the gym, which increase load for muscles and can improve strength. They can also support the body through a harder exercises by offsetting some of the body’s weight.
